Come and Sing
Messa di Gloria by Puccini

Concert poster

Puccini's Messa di Gloria is a delightfully tuneful and joyous work, written in his youth, by the composer who later became known for his operatic works. Still not widely known, it is nevertheless a highly rewarding work.

Why have I choosen this piece?

The Promenade Youth Choir had rehearsed the Messa di Gloria for a performance in 2020, but it had to be cancelled just a week before because of the onset of the Covid pandemic. The choir members remember the rehearsals and were desperately disappointed to miss out on a final performance with orchestra. When I suggested doing it again they were unaniimously enthusiastic, and they will be joining this concert in Weybridge. The work last 50mins, so is ideal for a one weekend workshop.

Participants in full time education

Any young singer who wants to join this event can do so for free. They can join the rehearsal on 15th July or, better, rehearse weekly on Monday evenings from September 5th with the Promenade Youth Choir, in Hersham from 7.45-9pm.

Adult participants

Aimed at singers with some experience of singing in choirs, or instrumentalists who are keen to try singing in a choir, participants will rehearse with piano on the 15th September from 2.30 to 5.50, and with orchestra on the 16th September from 2.30 to 4.30. The climax of the weekend will be a concert performance on 16th September, free to the public. Sight reading ability is not essential as the music will be taught and rehearsed, but some musical experience is expected.
